Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Temporary Speed Limit (Belfast) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 29th December 1996.

(2) In this Order—

“Motorway M3” means the cross harbour link road extending approximately 1,920 metres from its junction with the Motorway M2 in a generally easterly direction to Sydenham By-Pass, Belfast, including an eastbound off-slip road from the cross harbour link road to Middlepath Street; a westbound off-slip road from the cross harbour link road to Nelson Street; an eastbound on-slip road from Nelson Street to the cross harbour link road; and a westbound on-slip road from Middlepath Street to the cross harbour link road;

“T1 Trunk Road” means—

(a)

the road extending approximately 770 metres in a generally easterly direction from its junction with the southern end of the Motorway M3 off-slip road leading to Middlepath Street, Belfast, to its junction with Sydenham By-Pass; and

(b)

a westbound slip road from Sydenham By-Pass extending approximately 210 metres towards Bridge End.

Application and duration of speed limit

2.  The driving of motor vehicles at a speed greater than 50 miles per hour on the lengths of road specified in Schedule 1 is prohibited for a period of 4 months from 28th December 1996.

3.  The driving of motor vehicles at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour on the roads and lengths of road specified in Schedule 2 is prohibited for a period of 4 months from 28th December 1996.

Revocation

4.  The provisions of Article 2(1) of the Temporary Speed Limit (Sydenham By-Pass, Route A2, Belfast) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996(1) are hereby revoked.
