Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order, made under Article 7(1) of the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 (“the 1989 Order”) specifies the programme of study for key stage 4 in relation to Drama. Concurrent Orders have been made specifying programmes of study for the other subjects of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.

Article 7(5) of the 1989 Order allows for an Order under Article 7(1), instead of containing the provisions to be made, to refer to provisions in a Document published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office and to direct that these provisions shall have effect according to the Order.

This Order accordingly refers to “Key Stage 4, Programme of Study, Drama” and provides for the programme of study to have effect for the fourth key stage of a pupil’s compulsory schooling.

It further provides that any contents printed in italics in the Document are for illustrative purposes only, and do not form part of the provisions which have effect by virtue of this Order.

This Order comes into operation on 1st September 1996 in relation to pupils in the first year of the fourth key stage and on 1st August 1997 in relation to pupils in the second year of that key stage.

Copies of the Document entitled “Key Stage 4, Programme of Study, Drama ” may be obtained from Her Majesty’s Stationery Office, 16 Arthur Street, Belfast BT1 4GD.
