Article 8 of the Deregulation and Contracting Out (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 amends Article 79A(3)(b)(ii) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 on 27th August 1996 by removing the requirement to pass a test of competence before the grant of a taxi driver’s licence. As a consequence of this amendment the Motor Vehicles (Taxi Drivers' Licences) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1991 are amended as follows—
(1) The two tier system of fees for licences is replaced by a single fee for a licence and the fee payable is £58·50.
(2) The provisions which dealt with tests of competence are revoked.
The Motor Vehicles (Taxi Drivers' Licences) (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 and the Motor Vehicles (Taxi Drivers' Licences) (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 are revoked as a consequence of these Regulations.
