JUVENILE COURTS

The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 63 of and Schedule 2 to the Children and Young Persons Act (Northern Ireland) 1968(1) hereby makes the following regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Juvenile Courts and Assessors for County Courts (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 4th November 1996.
2. For Regulation 3 of the Juvenile Courts and Assessors for County Courts Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1979(2) there shall be substituted the following Regulation—
“3.—(1) A juvenile court shall be constituted for each petty sessions district in Northern Ireland and, subject to paragraph (2), shall have jurisdiction in the petty sessions district for which it is constituted.
(2) Where a juvenile court is sitting for the purpose of exercising any jurisdiction conferred by or under the Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 it shall have jurisdiction throughout the county court division in which it is situated.”.

These Regulations amend the Juvenile Courts and Assessors for County Courts Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1979 to substitute a new regulation 3. The new regulation makes provision in relation to the jurisdiction of juvenile courts and makes different provision where a juvenile court is sitting for the purpose of exercising any jurisdiction conferred by or under the Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1995.
