Weights and Measures (Guernsey and Alderney) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Weights and Measures (Guernsey and Alderney) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 1st June 1996.

(2) In this Order—

“Guernsey” means the islands of Guernsey, Herm and Jethou; and

“the 1981 Order” means the Weights and Measures (Northern Ireland) Order 1981.

Recognition of equipment stamped, or deemed to be stamped, in Guernsey and Alderney

2.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), weighing or measuring equipment of any class prescribed under Article 9 of the 1981 Order shall be treated for the purposes of the 1981 Order as duly stamped in Northern Ireland under that Article if—

(a)it has been duly stamped in accordance with the Weights and Measures (Guernsey and Alderney) Law 1991; or

(b)it falls to be treated for the purposes of that Law as if so stamped.

(2) This Article shall not apply to a non-automatic weighing instrument to which the Non-automatic Weighing Instruments (EEC Requirements) Regulations 1995(1) apply and which is first stamped on or after 1st January 2003.

Designation of Guernsey and Alderney

3.  Guernsey and Alderney shall be designated countries for the purposes of Articles 5(2), 19(7)(b) and 23(1)(c) of the 1981 Order.
