Requirement to inform employer of pregnancy etc.18

An employee shall not have the right conferred by Article 14 unless she informs her employer in writing at least twenty-one days before her maternity leave period commences or, if that is not reasonably practicable, as soon as is reasonably practicable—

a

that she is pregnant; and

b

of the expected week of childbirth or, if the childbirth has occurred, the date on which it occurred.

An employee shall not have the right conferred by Article 14 unless, if requested to do so by her employer, she produces for his inspection a certificate from a registered medical practitioner or a registered midwife stating the expected week of childbirth.
