The A1 Motorway (Ferrybridge To Hook Moor Section And Connecting Roads) Scheme 1999

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by Sections 16, 17, 19 and 106 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:—

1.  This Scheme may be cited as the A1 Motorway (Ferrybridge to Hook Moor Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1999 and shall come into force on 26 August 1999.

2.  In this Scheme:

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

(i)(2) (i) “connecting roads” means a special road along a route described in Schedule 2 to this Scheme;

(ii)“the Motorway” means a special road along the route described in Schedule 1 to this Scheme;

(iii)“the plan” means the plans numbered 1 and 2 contained in the plan folio numbered HA16 YHCPD 17, marked “The A1 Motorway (Ferrybridge to Hook Moor Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1999”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions and deposited at the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR; and

(iv)“the special roads” means the Motorway and each connecting road.

(v)“the A1” means the A1 Trunk Road.

3.  The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.

4.  The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plans.

5.  Each of the special roads shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

6.  The Secretary of State is authorised to construct the bridge specified in Schedule 3 to this Scheme as part of the Motorway.

SCHEDULE 1ROUTE OF MOTORWAY

A route starting on the Trunk Road (A) at a point 1.68 kilometres south of its junction with the M62 Motorway (marked ‘A’ on the map numbered 1 in the deposited plan) then going in a generally northerly direction for a distance of 15.59 kilometres (to a point marked ‘B’ on the map numbered 2 in the deposited plan).

SCHEDULE 2ROUTES OF THE CONNECTING ROADS

The routes of the connecting roads are routes in the Borough of Wakefield in the County of West Yorkshire and in the District of Selby in the County of North Yorkshire as follows:—

Junction with the M62 Motorway at Holmfield

1.  Two routes to connect the southbound carriageway of the Motorway with the eastbound carriageway of the M62 Motorway at Holmfield (the connecting roads along these routes being given the reference numbers 1 and 2 on the map numbered 1 in the deposited plan), two routes to connect the northbound carriageway of the Motorway with the westbound carriageway of the M62 Motorway at Holmfield (the connecting roads along these routes being given the reference numbers 3 and 4 on the map numbered 1 in the deposited plan), a route to connect the southbound carriageway of the Motorway with the westbound carriageway of the M62 Motorway at Holmfield (the connecting road along this route being given the reference number 5 on the map numbered 1 in the deposited plan) and a route to connect the eastbound carriageway of the M62 Motorway with the northbound carriageway of the Motorway at Holmfield (the connecting road along this route being given the reference number 6 on the map numbered 1 in the deposited plan).

Junction with the Trunk Road (A63) at Selby Fork

2.  Two routes to connect the northbound carriageway of the Motorway with a roundabout to be constructed as part of the A63 at Selby Fork Junction (the connecting roads along these routes being given the reference numbers 7 and 8 on the map numbered 1 in the deposited plan) and two routes to connect the southbound carriageway of the Motorway with a roundabout to be constructed as part of the A63 at Selby Fork Junction (the connecting roads along these routes being given the reference numbers 9 and 10 on the map numbered 1 in the deposited plan).

By virtue of The Secretary of State for The Environment, Transport and the Regions Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/2971), all functions of the Secretary of State for Transport were transferred to the Secretary of State for The Environment, Transport and the Regions with effect from 26 January 1998.
