The Mink (Keeping) (Amendment) Regulations 1982

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 of the Destructive Imported Animals Act 1932(1) and now vested in them(2), and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, with the approval of the Treasury, hereby make the following regulations:—

Title and commencement

1.  These regulations may be cited as the Mink (Keeping) (Amendment) Regulations 1982 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1983.

Amendment of the principal regulations

2.  The Mink (Keeping) Regulations 1975(3) shall be amended as follows:—

(a)in regulation 5(3) (fees payable in respect of the granting of licences) for “£35” there shall be substituted “£58”;

(b)in paragraphs (2) and (3) of Schedule 2 (manner in which mink are to be confined and precautions to be observed) after the words “not greater than 26mm” where they occur in each of these paragraphs there shall be inserted the words “or, alternatively, welded mesh of not less than 15 gauge with a mesh size not greater than 26mm × 40mm”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These regulations further amend the Mink (Keeping) Regulations 1975 by:—

(1) increasing the fee for a licence to keep mink from £35 to £58 with effect from 1st January 1983; and

(2) permitting enclosures and buildings in which mink are kept to be bounded by a guard fence consisting of welded mesh of a stipulated size as an alternative to a guard fence consisting of wire netting as originally required by the 1975 Regulations.
