The Glasgow City Council and Renfrewshire Council Boundaries (Braehead) Amendment Order 2002

Whereas under section 17(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973(1) the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland on 17th January 2001 submitted to the Scottish Ministers a report on a review conducted under section 14(2) of that Act in which they made proposals for the transfer of a certain area between Glasgow City Council and Renfrewshire Council, and in which they also made proposals for changes in electoral arrangements consequential on that change in local government areas; Now therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17(2) of the said Act and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf the Scottish Ministers hereby make the following Order to give effect to the proposals of that Commission as submitted to them:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Glasgow City Council and Renfrewshire Council Boundaries (Braehead) Amendment Order 2002 and shall come into force on 1st June 2002.

Interpretation

2.  In this Order–

“the 1977 Regulations” means the Local Government Area Changes (Scotland) Regulations 1977(2); and

“boundary map” means the map prepared by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland marked “The Glasgow City Council and Renfrewshire Council Boundaries (Braehead) Amendment Order 2002 Map” and deposited in accordance with regulation 3 of the 1977 Regulations;

and, in the Schedule, any reference to an administrative boundary is a reference to a boundary existing immediately before the commencement of this Order.

Application of the 1977 Regulations

3.  The provisions of the 1977 Regulations shall apply in relation to the area change effected by this Order except insofar as they can have no application in relation to that change.

Area change

4.  That part of the area of Glasgow City Council which is described in the Schedule and shown delineated and hatched on the boundary map, shall be transferred to the area of Renfrewshire Council.

Consequential changes of electoral arrangements

5.  The area described in the Schedule (being the area transferred by article 4 of this Order)–

(a)shall cease to form part of electoral ward 51 (Drumoyne) of the area of Glasgow City Council(3); and

(b)shall form part of electoral ward 27 (Deanside) of the area of Renfrewshire Council(4).

Article 4

SCHEDULE

Commencing at a point NG Ref NS 5270 6696 on the northern perimeter fence of King George V Dock; then westward along the said perimeter fence and its prolongation in a straight line to the eastern side of an access road to the east of Braehead Shopping Centre at NG Ref NS 5267 6696; then southward along the eastern side of the said access road to and southward and south eastward along the eastern side of Kings Inch Drive to its junction with Renfrew Road at Hillington Road roundabout; then westward in a straight line to a point NG Ref NS 5261 6588 on the existing administrative boundary between Glasgow City Council and Renfrewshire Council; then generally north westward and northward along the said administrative boundary to the centre point of the River Clyde; then south eastward and southward along the centreline of the said river to an undeterminable point in line with the northern perimeter fence of King George V Dock; then westward in a straight line to and along the said perimeter fence to the point of commencement.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order transfers on 1st June 2002 between Glasgow City Council and Renfrewshire Council the area of land described in the Schedule to this Order (article 4) and makes consequential changes to electoral arrangements (article 5).

The map annexed to and forming part of this note gives a general guide to the area affected by this Order.
