EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Potatoes Originating in Egypt Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2004 (S.R. 2004/183) (“the principal Regulations”) and revoke The Potatoes Originating in Egypt (Amendment No.2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006, authorising Member States temporarily to take emergency measures against the dissemination of Pseudomonas solanacearum (Smith) Smith (now referred to as Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al.) as regards Egypt.

The Regulations amend the definition of “the Decision” in the principal Regulations so as to include the amendments effected by Commission Decision 2007/842/EC (regulation 2(2)). This Decision renews the framework within which potatoes may be imported from Egypt into the territory of the European Community during the 2007/2008 season.

No Regulatory Impact Assessment has been carried out in respect of the extension of these controls to the 2007/2008 season.
