The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, being a Department designated(1) for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) in relation to the common agricultural policy of the European Community, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the said section 2(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001 and shall come into operation on 1st October 2001.
2.—(1) In these Regulations “the principal Regulations” means the Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000(3).
(2) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(4) shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
3. In Schedule 2 Part I.1 to the principal Regulations after the entry relating to Council Directive 99/579/EC there shall be added the following entry—
“Directive 2000/20/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council (O.J. No. L163, 4.7.00, p. 35);”.

These Regulations amend the Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 (S.R. 2000/253) (the principal Regulations).
A reference to Council Directive 2000/20/EC of the European Parliament and Council amending Council Directive 64/432/EC on animal health problems affecting intra-Community trade in bovine animals and swine has been inserted to Schedule 2 Part I.1.
