SOCIAL SECURITY

The Social Security (Contributions) (Re-rating) Consequential Amendment Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998

The Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 117(1) and 171(1) to (3) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits (Northern Ireland) Act 1992(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations which contain only provisions in consequence of an Order(2) under section 129 of the Social Security Administration (Northern Ireland) Act 1992(3):

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security (Contributions) (Re-rating) Consequential Amendment Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 6th April 1998 immediately after the coming into operation of the Social Security (Contributions) (Re-rating and Northern Ireland National Insurance Fund Payments) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998(4).

Amendment of regulation 96 of the Social Security (Contributions) Regulations

2.  In regulation 96(c) of the Social Security (Contributions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1979(5) (weekly rate of any Class 2 contributions payable by share fishermen) for “£6·80” there shall be substituted “£7·00”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations further amend regulation 96(c) of the Social Security (Contributions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1979 by increasing the special rate of Class 2 contributions payable by share fishermen from £6·80 to £7·00.

These Regulations contain only provisions in consequence of an Order (S.R. 1998 No. 61) under section 129 of the Social Security Administration (Northern Ireland) Act 1992 and accordingly, by virtue of section 149(3) of, and paragraph 3 of Schedule 5 to, that Act, are not subject to the requirement of section 149(2) of that Act for prior reference to the Social Security Advisory Committee.
