Trunk Roads (Designation of Routes) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998

Coming into operation

23rd October 1998

WHEREAS the Department of the Environment considers it expedient for the purpose of extending, improving and reorganising the trunk system that the roads described in the Schedule should be designated trunk roads;

AND WHEREAS notice has been published and served in compliance with paragraphs 1 and 2 of Schedule 8 to the Roads (Northern Ireland) Order 1993(1);

AND WHEREAS no objection has been received;

NOW THEREFORE the Department, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 14(1) of the Roads (Northern Ireland) Order 1993 and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby orders and directs as follows:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Trunk Roads (Designation of Routes) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 23rd October 1998.

Designation of routes

2.  The existing roads described in the Schedule shall become trunk roads.

Revocations

3.  The Belfast — Ballygawley — Londonderry Trunk Road (Portadown — Birches) Order (Northern Ireland) 1968(2) and The Portadown — Birches Trunk Road (Market Street to Obins Street, Portadown) Order (Northern Ireland) 1972(3) are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order provides that existing roads specified in the Schedule shall become trunk roads from 23rd October 1998.

The Order also revokes the Belfast — Ballygawley — Londonderry Trunk Road (Portadown — Birches) Order (Northern Ireland) 1968 and the Portadown — Birches Trunk Road (Market Street to Obins Street, Portadown) Order (Northern Ireland) 1972 as these roads are no longer to be part of the trunk road system.
