The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(2) of the Genetically Modified Organisms (Northern Ireland) Order 1991(1) and paragraph 2(1) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:

Citation

1.  This order may be cited as The Genetically Modified Organisms (1991 Order) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 1994.

Appointed day

2.  The following provisions of the Genetically Modified Organisms (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 shall come into operation on 1st June 1994:

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the order.)

This order brings into operation on 1st June 1994 certain provisions of the Genetically Modified Organisms (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 which makes provision for the purpose of preventing or minimising any damage to the environment which may arise from the escape or release from human control of genetically modified organisms.
