New Universities (Acquisition of Land) Act (Northern Ireland) 1966

1966 CHAPTER 4

An Act to authorise local authorities to assist in the establishment of new universities by acquiring land for presentation to such universities, and by making payments towards the expenditure incurred in such acquisitions; and for connected purposes.

1 Acquisition of land for new universities. N.I.

(1) For the purposes of assisting in the establishment of any new university, a [F1 district council] may, with the approval of the Ministry of Education (in this Act referred to as “the Ministry” )—

(a) acquire any land, whether situate within or without the [F1 district of that district coucil]; and

(b) dispose of the land so acquired by way of gift to that university.

F1 [(2) A district council may acquire land otherwise than by agreement for the purposes of this Act.]

2 Contributions towards expenditure under section 1. N.I.

(1) Any [F2 district council] may, subject to the approval of the Ministry, agree to make a payment or payments towards the expenditure incurred by a [F2 district council] under section 1.

(2) Any agreement made under subsection (1) shall provide that any payment made by a [F2 district council] pursuant to that agreement shall be calculated by reference to the net annual value [F3 and the capital value]F3 of the [F2 district of that district council] and to the total net annual value [F4 and the total capital value]F4 of the [F2 districts] of—

(a) all the [F2 district councils] making payments pursuant to that agreement; and

(b) the [F2 district council] incurring expenditure under section 1.

[F5 (3) For the purposes of this section—

(a) “capital value” means capital value for the purposes of the Rates (Northern Ireland) Order 1977 and shall be construed in accordance with Article 39 of that Order; and

(b) “net annual value” means net annual value for the purposes of the Rates (Northern Ireland) Order 1977 and shall be construed in accordance with Articles 39 and 39A of that Order.F5 ]

4 Financial provisions. N.I.

There shall be defrayed out of moneys provided by Parliament any increase attributable to the passing of this Act in the sums which under any other enactment are to be so defrayed.

5 Interpretation. N.I.

In this Act—
